Different Types of Lamps
The four most common types of lamps used for lighting:
Incandescent Lamps are inefficient and inexpensive. When used with dimmers, the efficiency is even lower.
High Intensity Discharge Lamps are efficient but costly. Dimmers are available but very expensive.
Fluorescent Lamps with Electronic Ballasts are efficient but costly. Electronic dimmers are available but very costly.
Fluorescent Lamps with Magnetic Ballasts are efficient and inexpensive, and are widely used in industrial and commercial applications - comprising 85% of all existing installations in North America. No adequate dimmers are currently available. Fluorescent Lamp efficiency is light produced per unit of electric power consumed
